Analysis of Avengers Poster

This is the poster for the film Avengers Directed by Joss Whedon (2012). In this poster we can see the title of the film very clearly which is a key feature for a poster. This title is also key because this is a comic adaptation, the Avenger title needs to be big so that readers of the comics can recognise that this poster is for the Avengers film. The title is in a white/silver colour which suggest that the film is going to be a mysterious and probably an unconventional film as most action films have red or bright coloured title to try and show an action type tone. The poster also has an image with all the main good guys/hero's in the film. The use of this image is that everyone who has followed previous films will recognise that the characters are all Marvel hero's and they can understand that they have all come together as the poster illustrates them being in a war. Having the background as a battle ground with buildings falling and planes blowing up indicates to the audience that there hero's maybe going through a struggle and may even lose the fight that is clearly being portrayed. Also, as all the main characters are still in this image, it could indicate to the viewer that there hero's are earth last hope which could create excitement for certain viewers. There are also the names of the actors at the top of the poster as all the main characters are played by famous actors and so people may realise from the names who the actors are as they may have liked previous films by these actors. Big named actors are for some films a selling point and this poster is using this to there advantage. They have also composed the names right at the top of the poster which indicates that they aren't using the names as a selling point as it isn't in the centre of the poster. Another feature on the poster is that it has the date of release on it. This sometimes makes the viewer to pre-book a ticket for this date as they like the poster and are interested in watching the film. The date of release is surrounded by many names, these are the names of the production company and backstage crew. They have most probably been used as some people may  like films made by the production company or  the director and so want to go watch this film.
The main image gives and effect of war and so the genre and tone can be told from the poster to be a Action movie with most probably a huge action scene. The use of the title of the film being near the bottom of the poster but being very big is probably a good way for us to present our film title as it allows more attention to be given for the image above the title and that is the films biggest marketable aspect for the film.

The main concept in this poster is that it uses the key characters in the film that the audience relate to. This could help us when we are making our own poster as we can create characters that our audience can relate to and use there image as the centre of our poster. Also, the poster doesn't show the villain in this film and so leaves the villain as a mystery, we could also do this for our poster to create suspense.
