Teaser Trailer
The teaser trailer to this film starts off quite conventionally. After the green screen. There is an establishing shot of where the film is set, Rio - Brazil. As this is the 5th film in this series of Fast and Furios, the audience will be aware that this film may not be like the other 4 films. This is because 3 of the other films were shot in America and the other in Japan. These areas all have there own social and economic problems and so this film is probabbly going to be different from the other 4 films. A non-diegetic sound is introduced from the begging. It is a sort of deep humming noise that helps in making the audience wary that something is about to happen. There is then another non diegetic sound. As letters come up on the bottom left hand side, typing noises are made which are usually associated with Sci-fi films which could show that this film is going to break conventions of a Action Thriller film.
The teaser continues and a man gets out of the car that the camera was panning across and he goes to knock on a door. After this, the non-diegetic sound starts making a ticking sound which creates suspense as it seels as if the teaser is creating the pulse of the veiwer. As the man comes to the door to answer the ticking sound becomes quiter until he opens the door. That is when we see and hear a diegetic sound of a man trusting a gun into the character who opened the door. The scene continues with all the people in the room being rounded up by people in masks. Even with these mask on, the audience is able to see that there main protagonist (Dom) is part of what seems to be a wrong and violent act. This again breaks conventions of an assumed hero character for these films as he may have turned bad. This creates suspense as the audience start asking themselves, why has he gone bad? The scene ends with the protagonist Dom, lighting a load of money. This is again unconventional as usually thiefs take money but they are burning it. This could indicate that this film isn't going to conventional or like its previous 4 films. After this scene, the production company label appears followed by an arriving plane.
This could indicate to the audience that there is an arrival of an saviour or villian. After the low angle plane shot, the teaser moves on to conventional aspects of the genre to this film, action. We see and hear diegetic sounds of fighting. This generates excitement as fast paced action draws the attention of the audience and creates suspense on what is going to happen next. There is then a mid-shot of the back of a character who has gotten of the plane. The audience is quick to realise that another well known actor has been used in this production as the actor coming off the plane is The Rock (Dwayne Johnson). This again generates excitement and suspense as the audience are intrigued in what role does The Rock play in this film. After this we are then introduced to shots and mise-en-scene that have made these films quite sucessful. Fast cars.
The use of fast cars attracts a wide range of audiences and just by using them in a production like this, it creates excitement as people love watching fast cars. The trailer continues for 4 seconds and Dom says 'Home sweet home.' The enxt sequence of shots are all car based chase scenes which create excitement and make the viewer want to continue watching the teaser trailer. As the car scenes are happening, there is a more upbeat non-diegetic sound which helps in making the mood more exciting and pass paced like the action being viewed by the audience. After a selection of action sequences, the first black screen comes up and says 'This model'. That could have something to do with the car model that is bieng used. I think its a clever way of sayin this year. This also shows that this trailer is conventional as it has a black screen, but the film itself may not be. After the black screen, the audience are introduced to some familiar faces only recogniseable from viewers of previous fast and furious films. This creates excitement for the audience as they have never seen all the characters for these films in one film. This makes the film even more unconventional from previous films. The next black screen comes up and states 'is fully loaded'. This could mean the car is fully loaded or the film is fully loaded by ket actors. During the black screens a non-diegetic sound of a car reving is being used which helps link the film back to cars and away from the viloence seen previously in the teaser trailer. There is then a low angle shot of 4 cars driving towards the camera. This again hints to the nature of the film. This is then followed by another Black screen with the title of the film on it. After this, there is another chase scene with a lot of action and a beaty non-diegetic soundtrack which helps grab the audiences attention at the end of the teaser as it comes to an end. The teaser ends with a black screen stating 'coming soon'. On a whole I beleive the teaser was conventional until the part after the Title. This is because it showed more action after the title when usually a teaser would show a small but fast scene or cut that leaves the audience on a cliffhanger but this film just promoted more action. This teaser shows too much action.

Poster
The poster for this film looks conventional and shows the main genre of the film, Action. The poster composes the protagonist, Dom, infront of the other protagonist. The whole image covers the background of the poster which could indicate the importance of action and violence in this film. The use of characters in different compositions indicates that one has a more powerful role than the other in the film. The themes are enforced by the use of red as the title font colour. The colour red is associated with violence, death, danger and so on. This helps enforce the action theme of the film also. Above the title, there are names of key actors for the film. This is a selling point for the production company. There is no logline or slogan on this poster which could have a connection with the film as the film is an all out action film. Finally, there is the section at the bottom of the poster that tells the audience the production company and crew that have been used to make this production. This poster is conventional and hints the themes of the film.
Magazine Cover
This product doen't have a magazine cover. This is because even though it is an Action film genre, it themes are based on cars. This is a niche theme and so it is not worth a big film magazine company making a magazine cover based on this film.
Comparison
The genre of the film is Action but it has some Thriller aspects. All these products convey the action genre well as they all show themes of action either by mise-en-scene or by editing and sound.
However the teaser trailer conveys themes that the film is going to be unconventional and so may not convey all the conventions of an Action genred film. Furthermore, as there is a lot to do with cars in these films, people may expected to see an image of a car on the poster. This again could hint that this film is going to be different to the other Fast and Furious film.
From these products, we can see that there is a common theme theme shown in both the teaser trailer and the poster of this film and so we should use the same concepts when we are making ou rown products.
